City Walks and Tours
For a unique, memorable trip to any port-of-call city, a city walk is what you will want to try. Nothing ensures an up close personal experience like traversing a city by foot, either with a guide or armed only with a streetmap. If signing up with a tour guide, remember the smallest group will be the least unobtrusive. If you're up to the challenge, and you want to venture out on your own, make sure you notify another passenger or crew member of your plans, and carry phone numbers in case you get lost or run late. Venturing out on your own is a bit risky but it virtually guarantees you'll discover something about the city, its people and yourself, that you otherwise wouldn't have.
If you're going it alone, read up on the city before disembarking, just to get a sense of history and culture or whatever you're interested in, but don't try and memorize anything...you'll forget before you step off the boat, and the idea is to wander freely and discover things on your own.
